Santa Croce, archaeological area

The archaeological area there are two main architectural phases one belonging to the late antique flooring with opus tessellatum and the other to a 5th century AD Byzantine church (Santa Croce) with the presence of pavements in opus tessellatum and opus sectile. This basilica was originally connected to the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, who was in the narthex. The Byzantine church was built on the remains of a Roman house. This ancient Roman house can be seen in some masonry structures and a floor geometric mosaic in black and white.
